Detectives continue to investigate Kettering shooting

UPDATE @noon (Oct. 7):

Detectives say they continue to investigate the cause of the shooting and the circumstance of her death. Additionally, the Montgomery County Coroner office performed an autopsy today, and said they’ve not ruled out suicide as a possible cause of death, officials said.

We have learned the name of the 44-year-old victim, but we’ve opted not to report it until we get more details about her cause of death.

UPDATE @ 10:52 p.m.: The woman in her 40s who was shot in the abdomen at a residence in the 2500 block of Hazelwood Avenue has died.

A Montgomery County Coroner’s Office investigator confirms the woman was pronounced dead at 6:25 p.m. and an autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

A family member, who asked to remain anonymous, said the woman was still alive when brought to Kettering Medical Center. He said both she and the man she shared a home with on Hazelwood Avenue owned guns.

The family member said he didn’t what kind of gun the woman owned. He said the woman’s parents and a daughter were at the hospital earlier this evening when the victim died.

We are not identifying the woman by name until we can confirm what we know with Kettering detectives. The coroner’s investigator declined to release the name pending notification of the victim’s family.

FIRST REPORT

A woman in her 40s has been taken to a hospital after she was shot in the abdomen.

Detectives are on scene, at a residence in the 2500 block of Hazelwood Avenue.

Police and a medic unit were dispatched just after 5 p.m. on a report of shots fired in the area of Hazelwood and Peach Orchard avenues.

We’re working to find out the victim’s condition and the circumstances of the shooting. We have crews on the way to the scene.
