Dayton man charged in woman’s brutal beating had slipped ankle monitor

DAYTON — A Dayton man accused of brutally beating a woman was wanted at the time for escaping from his electronic ankle monitor while out on bond for another crime.

Travion D. Montgomery, 28, was indicted today on a charge of felonious assault by a Montgomery County grand jury in the Aug. 31 beating.

The woman, Meinakola McLemore, was found lying face-down on the basement floor inside a house in the 200 block of Westwood Avenue in Dayton. She was unresponsive and had severe swelling to her face and head and was rushed to the hospital, where she remains in critical condition, according to the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office.

Montgomery remains held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $500,000 bond and will be arraigned Tuesday.

At the time of the woman’s beating, Montgomery was out on bond and electronic home detention program stemming from a March 6 robbery, court records show.

He had slipped his monitor for the program on Aug. 2, and on Aug. 6 the court issued a warrant for his arrest, the prosecutor’s office said.
