Dayton man already in prison gets 6 more years in federal gun case

DAYTON — A 34-year-old Dayton man incarcerated at the Lebanon Correctional Institution was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court for having a firearm as a convicted felon.

Henry B. Essick III was sentenced to 72 months in federal prison after he was caught in September 2018 with a rifle in a closet during a parole visit, according to court documents. He pleaded guilty in May, Benjamin C. Glassman, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio announced in a release.

Essick has previously been convicted of felonies included attempted aggravated arson, rape and kidnapping.

Glassman said he will serve his federal sentence after his term in state prison for forgery. His one-year sentence ends in October, records show.
