MIDDLETOWN — Police arrested two people in connection with Tuesday's arson that happened at 2001 Roosevelt Ave.
Middletown police say Thaddeus Shields, 18 of 1327 Woodlawn Ave. is charged with aggravated arson, a felony of the second degree; and a 17-year-old male is charged with unruly to wit aggravated arson.
"I'm glad the two have been arrested and something is finally being done it's a big relief," said Jennifer Chitwood, who lost her home in the fire. "But I still don't feel safe since there was about 30 outside my house."
Chitwood says they deserve to be locked up for a long time. "They took everything from me and my kids; my daughter is scared to go to sleep at night."
Middletown Lt. Scott Reeve said officers arrested both suspects earlier this morning thanks to help from Chitwood. He said the 17-year-old tried to run away from officers in the 1300 block of Woodlawn Avenue. Officers responded to the area and there was a little bit of a manhunt in the area for him. He was hiding in somebody's yard," said Reeve.
It took officers approximately 15 minutes to find him. "We arrested him in the backyard of a house near Young (Street) and Woodlawn (Avenue)."
Officers arrested Shields without incident. Reeve says Shields will be in court on Friday morning. The 17-year-old is headed to the juvenile detention center.
"They were causing problems in the neighborhood and feels good detectives were able to bring it to a quick conclusion," Reeve said.
