Crews start putting up Christmas lights at The Fraze

KETTERING — Even with temperatures in the low 70s, Kettering workers started the long process of turning The Fraze into a winter wonderland.

“It’s a sense of normalcy for everyone,” Todd Raker, a City of Kettering park service worker said.

While it might seem abnormal to put up Christmas lights a few weeks before Halloween, Raker said his team needs all of that time to get the job done.

The three person crew will spend 40 hours a week from now until Thanksgiving stringing the eight miles of lights.

“There’s a lot of trees and a lot of different features. We do the fountains. We do the different things like that. So, we do a lot,” Raker said.

The Fraze will not be the only place to feel the holiday spirit.

Carillon Historical Park is still planning on putting up its tree this year.

Both spots are places where people can feel close to Christmas but keep their distance.

“It’s something that we’ve done every year. And we really stand by that,” Raker said.

The City of Kettering will not have its big in-person holiday even this year, but there will be a virtual one December 4th.

However, Carillon Historical Park said it is planning on having A Carillon Christmas on November 24th.
