The total number of claims filed, which includes new and continued cases, was down 2.4 percent from the previous week, according to the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services.

Previous claims that were continued remained high, with around 424,246 continued claims filed last week. This number was also down just over 1 percent from the previous week, according to JFS data. The number of continued cases is down over 300,000 from the peak of unemployment claims earlier this year.

Just over 30,000 Ohioans filed new unemployment claims last week, a drop of nearly 15 percent from those who filed new claims last week.

Over $5.5 billion has been distributed by jobs and family services since the start of the pandemic.

Last week, Ohio Jobs and Family Services reported an increase in unemployment claims for the first time in weeks. Before last weeks’ uptick, the state had seen 10 weeks of continuous declines.
