Coronavirus: Should you social distance your pets?

Pet owners are wondering what they should be doing to protect their companions after it was announced that a tiger tested positive for coronavirus this week.

A 4-year-old tiger from the Bronx Zoo in New York was confirmed to be the first known animal to test positive for the virus.

There are currently no documented cases of pets or domestic animals who have contracted the virus but precautions should be taken, a veterinarian at Med Vet in Moraine told News Center 7 Anchor Molly Koweek on Tuesday.

Pet owners who have coronavirus should properly social distance themselves from their pet. She also recommends that they wash their hands and wear masks.

It would be best overall if another person in the home could care for the pet.

The veterinarian also recommended that dog parks should be avoided.
