Coronavirus: ODH release amended cosmetology order

OHIO — The Ohio Department of Health announced that the Director’s Order that Reopens Hair Salons, Day Spas, Nail Salons, Barber Shops, Tattoo Parlors, Body Piercing Locations and Tanning Facilities has been amended to allow oral and nasal piercings.

The order allows these kinds of piercings to take place as long as the body piercer wears a mask and a face shield or protective eyewear.

The client is also required to wear a mask before and after the piecing is performed.

The Department of Health stated their reason for the amendment was due to reports of people trying to perform their own piercings, resulting in infections.

The order stated: “With proper precautions, ODH believes it is safer for individuals for piercings to be performed by licensed professionals."

The order will be signed on October 10.
