— A Spanish-themed tapas bar with a striking riverfront view is gearing up to open on the banks of the Great Miami in downtown Dayton.
“Bar Granada” will be part Spanish deli, part European Cafe, according to co-founder Paul Pelnar. Build-out for the new business is underway at 5 W. Monument Ave. at North Main Street, in space that previously housed the Wine Gallery Cafe. No opening date has been set yet, but it will be “soon,” Pelnar said, and he has started the hiring process.
“For those who have been to Spain, we are aiming to remind you of that experience,” Pelnar said. “We are bringing in the flavors of a traditional Spanish kitchen,” including garlic, tomatoes, olive oil, fresh seafood, Iberico ham, house-made Sangria, and Spanish beers.
Pelnar said he was a frequent customer of the Wine Gallery and admired the building, with its European-style arched windows views of the river, even before it became available.
“We want to give this space back to Dayton, in a meaningful way,” Pelnar said. “We have some work to do to get there, but we’ll make it happen.”
The surge in residential development in downtown Dayton and the upcoming opening of CareSource a few blocks away are among the several encouraging indicators of the growing vibrancy of the center city, Bar Granada’s co-founder said. Bar Granada's other two partners are Alvaro Castano and Steven Bolos.
“We’re excited to be down here,” Pelnar said. “We’re going to invest here.”
