Vacant Springfield house ruled a total loss after fire

SPRINGFIELD — A house in the 500 block of South Lowry Avenue in Springfield was ruled a total loss after becoming fully engulfed in flames Saturday morning.

Patrolling officers reported high flames visible around 4:40 a.m. from the corner of South Lowry Avenue and Pleasant Street.

The house appeared to be vacant for several months, police said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
