Threat for severe storms returning to the area this week

The Storm Prediction Center has placed the Miami Valley under a marginal risk for severe storms Thursday.

Severe weather season has kicked off with a historically quiet start across the Central Plains, and now storms have erupted across that region Tuesday evening.

The Storm Prediction Center placed parts of Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, and northwest Missouri under a moderate risk for severe storms through Wednesday.

Damaging wind, large hail, and tornadoes are all expected to slowly spread east throughout the rest of the week. While storms are expected to weaken as a storm system push East, a few strong storms could also push into the Miami Valley as early as midday Thursday.

The greatest threat will generally be across the Northwestern third of the Miami Valley on Thursday before spreading South and East on Friday. The storm threat across the Valley is expected to be locally heavy rain and the potential for strong winds. It is too early to know if there will be any significant tornado threat, but one or two tornadoes cannot be ruled out as a cold front crosses the region during the end of the week.
