Hurricane Lane wettest tropical cyclone on record for Hawaii

Hawaii — The National Weather Service in Honolulu released rainfall reports from what was once Hurricane Lane and the results changed the record books.

The Mountain View rain gauge collected 52.2 inches of rain which breaks the record for the wettest tropical cyclone in Hawaii.

The old record was 52 inches from Hurricane Hiki back in 1950. Lane still doesn't come close to surpassing the storm totals from Hurricane Harvey in 2017, which produced 60.58 inches in Nederland, Texas.

Across the country now, Hurricane Harvey produced the most rain and Hurricane Lane comes in second for wettest tropical cyclones to impact the United States on record.
