Fire heavily damages storage building in Newport, in Shelby County

Large response to Shelby County fire

UPDATE @ 6:57 p.m.: The burning building is owned by Cynthian Twp. and is used to store equipment and vehicles, including trucks and tractors.

We’re working to learn details about the possible cause and extent of the fire.

Several fire crews remain on the scene of a structure fire in the 3400 block of Elm Street in Newport, Shelby County.

There are no reported injuries from the fire, which was dispatched just after 5 p.m.

Area resident Shelby Bohman reports to us that the burning building is next to the Newport tavern and has been burning about 90 minutes. 

According to Bohman, fire crews from Russia, Versailles, Minster, Houston, Fort Loramie were dispatched and at 6:23 p.m., tankers from New Breman and Osgood were being called to the scene.

Ohio 66 is closed at Ohio 47 until further notice.
