The Gala of Hope Foundation donation to Dayton Children's was $198,870.
Dayton Children's Hospital today will announce "a major donation" that will fund "groundbreaking pediatric cancer research."
In a statement released Tuesday night, hospital officials said the donation -- the amount of which will be announced Wednesday at a news conference -- is from Gala of Hope organizers Bob and Barbara Mills that will fund the next steps in groundbreaking research on brain tumors in children.
Mr. Mills's granddaughter successfully fought cancer at Dayton Children's, officials said in the statement, and his wish is to never have a child go through what she went through.
Neurosurgeon Robert Lober, M.D., Ph.D., will explain the research he is doing at the Wright State University & Premier Health Neuroscience Institute, and how children in the Miami Valley are contributing to his work hospital officials said "that may someday allow doctors to kill a tumor, without ever having to do surgery."
