Child struck with gun in family dispute

A family dispute resulted in two arrests after a child was struck with a gun and police officer was assaulted on Thursday.

Christopher D. Rutledge and James A. Rutledge are facing assault charges.

Police were dispatched to the 100 block of Cambridge Avenue around 9:41 p.m. for a reported assault.

When officers arrived, a 12-year-old boy reported Christopher Rutledge hit him in the head with a gun. The victim had a swollen lump on his forehead, according to police.

Christopher and James Rutledge, the victim, and the victim's mother were arguing before the child was struck with the gun.

James Rutlege was being detained in a police cruiser when he became combative and kicked out the window, according to police. Police report he later kicked an officer before he was pepper sprayed by law enforcement.
