CAP to help Ohioans with heat assistance through March 2019

The Ohio Development Services Agency and Miami Valley Community Action Partnership (CAP) are helping Ohioans stay warm this winter.

Residents in Darke, Preble, Greene, and Montgomery counties can apply for/receive the Home Energy Assistance Winter Crisis Program (HEAP) until March 31, 2019, according to a release. This program provides eligible Ohioans with heating assistance if:

  • They are disconnected from their heating source
  • They are threatened with disconnection
  • They have less than 25 percent supply of bulk fuel
  • The household has a gross income at or below 175 percent of the federal poverty level.

Households interested in the program must schedule an appointment and bring the following items with them:

  • Proof of income (copies of pay stubs)
  • Copies of their most recent energy bills
  • List of all household members with Social Security numbers and birth dates
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship/legal residency for all household members (social security card, birth certificate, U.S. Passport, naturalization paper/certification of citizenship, permanent VISA, or INS ID card)

Interested residents can call 937-514-4777 or go online to miamivalleycap.org to schedule an appointment.

For more information about the program, Ohioans can call toll-free Monday through Friday at 800-282-0880, visit http://development.ohio.gov/is/is_heapwinter.htm, or contact their local Miami Valley CAP offices.
