Tavares Jones

Tavares Jones joined the WHIO-TV news team in February 2019 as a reporter and co-anchor of News Center 7 Saturday. 


Prior to making the move to the Miami Valley, Tavares spent three years as a breaking news anchor and reporter at WGXA-TV of Macon, GA. Many of the stories Tavares covered focused on the area’s growing crime trends, several major court cases, political coverage, and severe weather including deadly tornadoes and hurricanes across the state.

Tavares' professional affiliations include the Society of Professional Journalists, National Association of Black Journalists, Radio Television Digital News Association and the National Broadcast Society. 


An alumnus of University of Florida, Tavares earned dual degrees in Journalism and Political Science. Prior to graduation he also began a career in the legal sector as legal assistant and public affairs director at a regional law firm based in Gainesville, FL, specializing in Criminal Defense, Personal Injury, and Wrongful Death cases. 

Tavares is committed to serving the local community and devotes much of his time to various organizations including The National Coalition for the Homeless, Children's Miracle Network, Catholic Charities, United Way and the Miss America Scholarship Organization.
