A New Year's Eve proposal was particularly memorable for an unknowing woman whose father was honored in a special way.

Cpl. Matthew Auriel would've wanted to ask for his girlfriend's father's blessing before asking for her hand in marriage. But he was unable to do so because Charity Kirk's father, Lt. Trent Kirk, was killed in a fire in 2003.

Even still, Lt. Kirk was there in spirit when Auriel proposed.

"I knew it was going be special to her. I knew how much of a role model he was to her, and I just wanted to involve him," Auriel said.

He surprised Charity at a fire museum she was visiting with her nephew. Her father's name is engraved on a wall at the museum honoring heroes who fell in fire-related incidents.

Auriel was waiting in front of Kirk's plaque with a bouqet of flowers.

"I was a little nervous," Auriel said. "Once I came around the corner everything just went out. I was just focused on her."

"What're you doing here?" Charity asked Auriel when she saw him. She later said she was completely surprised by the proposal and didn't expect it at all.

Auriel wanted to propose before returning to his military base since he doesn't know when he might leave again with potential deployment.

Charity said yes. Now, the couple feels as if Lt. Kirk will always be watching over them.

"I wanted to make it special for her and involve him in some kind of way and the best way I could think of was to do it here," Auriel said.

The special moment was caught on camera. Watch the proposal below.

Social media gets any message out to all your family and friends quickly. That can be a good thing and a bad thing.

One couple found that out the hard way.

In a Facebook post one woman posted a photo of her and her fiance as she brandished her ring finger.

"I am truly blessed today as the love of my life has asked me to marry him. Words cannot express how happy I feel and how lucky I am. He wasn't able to give me a real ring yet, but what matters is what's on the inside. I know that we were will be happy together, regardless of material things. Be on the look out for save-the-dates!" she wrote.

The photo shows the happy couple on a couch with excited expressions.

But it's what was in the corner of the photo that got people talking.

"Is that what I think it is in the corner?" one person commented.

A closer look shows an opened box for a pregnancy test.

"Well, I guess what's on 'the inside' really does matter," another commenter wrote.

One man, presumably her father, even posted, "Honey, you should call us. Your mother is confused."

The woman must not have realized the pregnancy test was also in the photo because she voiced confusion about why everyone was asking if she's pregnant.

Eventually, she saw what everyone else had seen.

"Oh," the woman posted. "Hey, we're having a baby too."

Nine years later, Bowman has tied the knot and is now a married woman. In a ceremony held on Oct. 10, Brelyn married her best friend, Tim Bowman, after dating for three years. But at the wedding, the bride did something unexpected.

She presented a certificate of purity to her father.

The certificate reads:

“On the 10th of May 2006, I, Brelyn Freeman, made a vow to glorify God in my body and spirit which are God’s because I have been bought with a price (Jesus). I have kept this commitment and present this certificate to my father Dr. Michael A. Freeman to show him I have honored God and my earthly father in my body by maintaining my purity.”

The certificate was signed by Brelyn's gynecologist.

Brelyn and members of her family posted photos and messages on social media about the certificate, garnering tons of comments on the posts.

“Who knew that a pic like this would get so much negativity,” her father wrote.

Some commenters have praised Brelyn for waiting, and others have criticized the public posting of what they say should have been a private moment.

The newlyweds have used the media attention they’ve received as a platform to promote their values of waiting until marriage.

California couple Carlee Leifkes and Lucas Unger just got engaged.

Unger popped the question on Halloween night in front of Leifkes' family and friends.

What's unique about the couple's love story is the ring Unger proposed to Leifkes with. Instead of a diamond, one of Unger's wisdom teeth sat clasped in the ring band.

“When we’d spoken about it, I’d said that diamonds are so overrated,” Leifkes told BuzzFeed News. “My birthstone is a diamond. I don’t need one to prove how much someone loves me. He’d already moved all the way from Canada to do that!”

The couple, who met at a music festival in Unger’s native Canada earlier this year, pride themselves on being nontraditional.

The two plan to get married in Las Vegas later this month.

“I’m going to have a cast, a wisdom tooth ring, a pink dress and Elvis is going to marry us,” said the bride-to-be, who recently broke her leg.

So incredibly excited to marry my best friend, the man who knows that his wisdom tooth means more to me than a diamond....

Imagine receiving a text message from your fiance telling you it's time to call it quits.

Most people would be outraged and extremely disappointed.

But for one Tampa woman, it was liberating.

Kilee Manulak said she went numb when she received a text from her fiance of two years that said he wanted to call off the wedding, the same week it was supposed to happen, WFLA reports.

“My maid of honor, my mom and all my friends helped me. I was just so devastated,” she said.

But that devastation didn’t last long. Manulak and her bridesmaids decided to join the festivities at the Color Fun Fest 5K in Tampa, Florida. And they went dressed in their gowns. During the race, participants run through stations where they are sprayed with different colored powder.

“It was actually very liberating,” she said. “I don’t want a pity party. I just want to have fun with it.”

Manulak even got on the stage -- something she said she would’ve never done had she gotten married.

“I wanted to keep my dress. I (just) wanted to maybe alter it or do something new to it. But I definitely didn’t want to destroy it,” she said.

Manulak said she wishes her ex-fiance the best.

“I definitely want to tell him thank you for sparing me heartaches down the road and thank you for letting me go so I can find true happiness,” Manulak said.
