— The Boonshoft Museum of Discovery introduced the public to its newest Discovery Zoo animal in February.
But one thing was missing — a name.
After 1,099 votes were cast at the museum and online, the public ultimately decided to name the zoo’s baby red-tailed boa constrictor Ruby.
The female boa currently weighs 10 pounds and is 4½ feet long. It could grow to be 10-feet long and weigh 50 pounds when it is full grown.
The three options suggested by the museum and put out to vote included Ruby, Rose and Val— short for Valentine.
“The Boonshoft Museum has a long history of animal education and conservation, and we are so excited to continue that with our newest zoo resident,” Stephanie Hylinski, curator of live animals, said in a press release.
The Boonshoft Museum of Discovery is located at 2600 DeWeese Pkwy. in Dayton.
