WRIGHT-PATTERSON AFB — The loud noises you are likely to hear over the next three days and nights will be Army helicopters from Fort Carson, Colorado, on their way to New York.
Some of the 50 helicopters are stopping at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base for overnight stays before reaching their destination, which is Fort Drum, John Van Winkle, 88th Air Base Win Public Affairs, said Wednesday night.
The array of air power includes the Black Hawk (UH-60), Apache (AH-64) and Chinook (CH-47) and they will be making their way into and across the region through May 24.

“The 4th Combat Aviation Brigade of the @4thInfDiv is a highly trained force comprised of aviation warfighters …,” said Col. Scott Myers, 4th CAB commander.

Not all of the crews are staying overnight for fuel and meals. Some will fly straight through, Van Winkle said.
The helicopters are part of the 4th Infantry Division, 4th Combat Aviation Brigade, out of Colorado Springs.
