State highway patrol: 2 motorcycle accidents in southern Ohio leave 1 dead, 1 injured

HIGHLAND COUNTY — One person is dead and another remains in a hospital after two motorcycle accidents in Highland County in the last nine days and the Wilmington Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating both incidents.

Michael Buchanan, 68, Mount Orab, remained in University of Cincinnati hospital on Wednesday night following an accident June 16 on U.S. 50 West in Dodson Twp.

He was operating a 2013 Harley Davidson Wide Glide when his motorcycle traveled off the road after a curve. Buchanan was ejected after striking a ditch.

Henry Fleckinger, 73, of Hillsboro, was killed June 21 after he was ejected from his 2009 Honda Shadow motorcycle that hit a ditch as he travel southeast on state Route 124 in Marshall Twp.

Fleckinger also traveled off the road after a curve. He was pronounced dead at Miami Valley Hospital.

Neither motorcycle operator was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and no other vehicles were involved, state patrol officials said.
