Flames destroy vacant house in Piqua; cause under investigation, assistant fire chief says

PIQUA — UPDATE @ 8:36 p.m.: The house on South Wayne Street in Piqua destroyed by fire was not being lived in, Piqua Fire Assistant Chief Paul Brown said.

Crews from Fletcher and Covington were dispatched as well as part of the mutual aid response.

None of the firefighters was injured, Brown said.

The cause is under investigation, he said.

The fire is the second major one in Piqua in three days. Lightning is expected to be listed as the cause of a fire Saturday that heavily damaged a furniture refurbishing business and an apartment on the second floor of the business.

A house fire has been reported in the 600 block of South Wayne Street in Piqua.

Crews are currently on scene and reporting that heavy smoke is showing, according to Miami County dispatchers.
