Coronavirus: She just gave away her 1,000th hand-sewn face mask

WASHINGTON TWP. — She has hand sewn well over 1,000 masks since the coronavirus pandemic reached Ohio.

She has donated an estimated 600 to nursing homes, has given them to neighbors and to anyone who needs one. All she asks is a donation to a local food pantry (she has taken in nearly $2,000 to date).

She is Brenda Stansfield and she won't stop. In fact, she's ready to start on another thousand masks.

Stansfield told News Center 7's Monica Castro on Wednesday that she turned her skills to crafting face masks when her business shut down because of the pandemic.

"So I just decided this is my job," she said.

Stansfield has made her “porch store” a sort of open air market where she stocks a colorful assortment of masks everyday about 3 p.m. The “store” was born out of Gov. Mike DeWine’s continuing suggestions that everyone should wear a mask/face covering when out in public.

Anyone can shop at Stansfield's "store." She's more than happy to help keep people safe and healthy.

“I have a skill that I just happen to have and I have the passion to do it,” she said, quick to credit all the donations of fabric from friends, quilters in the community and some small businesses that allow her sew mask after mask after mask.
