Coronavirus: Reds, in concert with MLB, launch $1M relief fund for gameday staff

CINCINNATI — Eligible employees beginning today can apply for financial assistance from the Reds Gameday Staff COVID-19 Relief Fund.

The $1 million fund announced last month in concert with Major League Baseball and its 30 clubs provides short-term assistance to help staff members experiencing significant financial hardship as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Eligible employees include 2019 gameday staff employed by the Reds and rehired for the 2020 season, along with staff from facilities service provider SBM who have been identified as eligible by SBM.

Eligible participants are being notified and may apply through May 31.

The fund is a charitable program administered by E4E Relief, an independent, third-party public charity.

E4E Relief will manage the application process and distribute the funds on behalf of the Reds, while maintaining the confidentiality of gameday staff members.

A crowdfunding campaign Reds veteran pitcher Trevor Bauer organized in March to support the workers -- he encouraged the public to join him -- has raised an additional $24,841 as of April 13. The money he raises will be rolled into the club’s relief fund.
