Coronavirus: Increase in positive COVID-19 tests seen at Dayton Children’s Hospital

DAYTON — A doctor at Dayton Children’s Hospital said in the last month, he is seeing an increase in positive COVID-19 tests.

Dr. Jon Woltmann, a pediatric infectious disease physician, said most of the children are asymptomatic. He said those who do show symptoms often have fevers, coughs, congestion and runny noses.

Four months into the pandemic, Dr. Woltmann said he is optimistic about the patients’ health long term.

“For the most part, I think the vast majority of the children that have this exposure, they’re going to clear it. They’re not going to have any complications,” Dr. Woltmann said.

As of 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dayton Children’s had tested 7,986 children. Hospital leaders said about 4 percent have been positive.
