— If you forgot about The Troy Strawberry Festival, you are not alone.
As summer shifts into full gear, it will get harder to keep up with all of the events happening in town.
June is a month of food celebrations in honor of some of my favorite things — it’s national candy month, dairy month, fresh fruit and vegetables month, national iced tea month, papaya month and so much more.

Those milestones don’t begin to scratch the surface on what the month of June has in store when it comes to food.
Here is my list of 10 can’t miss dining events for the month of June to mark your calendars for.
JUNE 9: BANANA SPLIT FESTIVAL
Who invented the banana split? If you ask anyone in Wilmington, Ohio it was Ernest Hazard in 1907. The annual Banana Split Festival celebrates the birthplace of the banana split. Festival goers will enjoy plenty of food booths and craft and collectible booths promoting the 50s and 60s, a classic car cruise in, games for the entire family, and free entertainment. But the highlight for most will be the “build your own” banana split booth. No surprise there.

JUNE 9-11: VERSAILLES POULTRY DAYS
Poultry Days, an annual community festival that began in 1952 to celebrate the Versailles history as a leading poultry producer, is held the second full weekend in June each year. Arrive early to enjoy one of the town’s 25,000 World Famous chicken dinners they will be preparing. After you eat, the festival will have plenty to stop and enjoy including the 36th annual Ultimate Frisbee Tournament, which is one of the top tournaments in the nation, plus the Miss Chick and Little Miss Poultry Days Contests.

JUNE 10: ROCK ‘N GREEN TOMATO FESTIVAL
The Seventh Annual Rock ‘n’ Green Tomato Festival held in Miamisburg is everything that an outdoor festival should be — contests, tournaments, live music, vendors and plenty of food including fried green tomatoes. Held at Riverfront Park, it’s a perfect destination to bike to if you are looking to make an entire day of it.

JUNE 10: YELLOW SPRINGS STREET FAIR
To say that this is a favorite event would be a massive understatement. This all-day festival features entertainment, street performers, fine arts & crafts, clothing, jewelry, fair trade items and a wide variety of food ranging from Vietnamese shish-kabob to Mexican empanadas to Thai wraps to hot dogs.

JUNE 12: MELT OPENING DATE
The Mall at Fairfield Commons in Beavercreek will be home to the eighth MELT location. The beloved gourmet grilled-cheese spot that operates out of a chain based in Cleveland, will be a hot ticket serving up hot sandwiches. The MELT pierogis ($7) alone topped with sautéed onions, fresh napa vodka kraut, shredded cheddar and sour cream are a cause for celebration.

JUNE 16-17: JUNGLE JIM’S BEER FEST
This huge craft beer festival features more than 100 breweries and more than 400 beers. Tickets come with a modest meal including a BBQ beef sandwich, potato chips, coleslaw or potato salad, and a bottle of water. But it’s not the food you came for. Purchase tickets online now as they will sell-out.

JUNE 19: YELLOW SPRINGS BREWERY DINNER AT BAR DUMAINE
Be prepared to sip, swill, or slam some beer while Chris Hutson from the Yellow Springs Brewery and Caleb Perry from Bar Dumaine enlighten you on your adult beverages. Chef Anne Kearney will also be coming out to the tables in between making each of your courses to say hello and fill you in on the food you will be enjoying. Courses paired with special beers include Salad of watercress, raspberries, pistachio laden goat cheese medallion, sweet-n-sour fennel vinaigrette, a horseradish emulsion dressed Gulf shrimp with roasted golden beets, pickled red onion and herb salad; fresh fish en papillote, preserved lemon, EVOO yukon confit, and Jamestown pea shoots; beer braised beef short rib, red onion marmalade, Tuscan kale, pickled mustard seeds and orange kissed pavlova, blueberries, Madagascar vanilla-black pepper pastry cream. JUNE 21: SPASS NACHT 2017 “AN AUSTRIAN FESTIVAL”
In honor of Kettering’s sister city, Steyr, Austria, the Kettering Sister City Association presents a Spass Nacht — translation, fun night. Authentic food, beverages, polka music from the Charon Polka Band and other live entertainment will take place throughout Lincoln Park.The Chardon Polka Band will bring their own tunes into the mix along with polka-pop covers of artists like Justin Bieber and Lady Ga Ga, so get ready for some fun while you do your Oktoberfest pregaming.

JUNE 24: SLIDERS, SIDES & SUDS FESTIVAL
The Miami Valley Restaurant Association is launching a new festival this year to join its lineup of other successful festivals including the Kickin Chicken Wing Festival (happening July 8) and Bacon Fest (happening Aug. 20). The title says it all — sliders, sides and suds will be ever present. More than a dozen restaurants are expected to participate including Amber Rose, Basil’s, The Dock, elé Cake Co. Bistro & Wine Bar, El Meson, Giovanni’s, Mr. Boro’s Tavern, Roost, Tank’s Bar & Grill, Wandering Griffin and 1776 Grill. Live music will provide the electric soundtrack for the day from the Lincoln Park stage.

LATE JUNE: MUDLICK TAPHOUSE OPENING:
Mudlick Taphouse will take the successful from-scratch menu and impressive list of craft beer and cocktails they developed and perfected at their Germantown location and apply it on a much larger scale in the location they will open at the end of the month at 135 E. Second St. in downtown Dayton.
Mudlick founders Jennifer Dean and Forrest Williams recently wrote on social media: “We don’t think of Mudlick Tap House as ‘ours’…we think of it as ‘OURS’…from our extremely talented culinary team that works every day to deliver their creative, mindfully sourced dishes, our service team who seeks to create a unique experience for every guest that walks through our door, to all of our guests that consider the Tap House amongst one of their favorite places for high-end beer and cocktails with chef-inspired food. We are excited for the next chapter and even more excited to become part of the booming downtown scene!”
With vision like that this will be one to visit sooner rather than later.
