— The eagerly anticipated premiere of the eighth and final season of “Game of Thrones” aired Sunday night, with Winterfell the site of emotionally charged reunions, new spats and lingering grudges.
The first episode was a little bit lighter on action and corpses, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. The New York Times was a bit more descriptive, tabbing the opening episode as “a somewhat soapy but generally very satisfying setup” for the show’s final run.
However, there was still plenty of intrigue, tension and teases for the remaining episodes, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Predictably, social media was full of reaction:

I’m fully embracing Bran Stark’s new role as the #GameOfThrones fan at home telling the other characters to stop messing around because there are only six episodes this season. pic.twitter.com/GyOhbfC0PH— Dan Murrell (@MurrellDan) April 15, 2019
