— Throughout her more than 50-year career, Doris Day recorded hundreds of songs and starred in dozens of films. Here are a few of her most popular movies.
“The Man Who Knew Too Much”
In this 1956 suspense thriller by Alfred Hitchcock, a physician and his wife, played by Day, are vacationing in Morocco when their son is kidnapped. When police refuse to help them, the couple takes matters into their own hands.
“Young at Heart “
Day shares the spotlight with Frank Sinatra in this 1954 musical. The flick follows a widowed musician’s three daughters, who each have complicated love stories.
An interior designer, played by Day, is annoyed by her neighbor’s romantic pursuits in this 1959 romance. Once she files a complaint against him, he attempts to seduce her.
“Romance on the High Seas”
In the 1948 comedy, a husband and wife are madly in love but suspect each other of cheating. When the two can no longer go on their anniversary cruise together, the husband suggests his wife go alone and hires a detective to spy on her. But the wife sends a singer, played by Day, in her place, and a classic case of mistaken identity ensues.
Calamity Jane, portrayed by Day, falls for a lieutenant in this 1953 comedy. But when he develops feelings for her maid, Calamity Jane’s jealousy takes over..
“Move Over, Darling”
In this 1963 romance, a man is grieving the loss of his wife, played by Day, who died in a plane crash. He marries another woman only to realize his first wife actually survived.
“The Pajama Game”
Based on the stage musical of the same name, the 1957 film follows a pajama factory worker who falls in love with a superintendent, who has been hired to help oppose the workers’ demands for a pay raise.
