Wikileaks tries to muscle in on the final weekend in the race for President

Published: Saturday, November 05, 2016 @ 5:25 AM

With the 31st installment of hacked emails now out on the internet, Wikileaks is trying again to see if the group can set the narrative for the last few days of the race for the White House, with just a few chances left to release more insider information about the operations of the Clinton campaign.

Here's some of what I've seen:

Content Continues Below

1. The running battle over Clinton's emails. If there has been on constant thread in the Podesta emails, it is the struggle of the Clinton Campaign to deal with the release of Hillary Clinton's emails from her time as Secretary of State. In an email released Saturday morning from late June of 2015, the State Department is just about to release some items to the Benghazi committee, as Team Clinton looks to get the word out early by giving a heads up to the Associated Press. This will start all sorts of conspiracy theories - I will tell you as a reporter, this is pretty normal business.

2. The ups and downs of a campaign. Not long before the Iowa Caucus, John Podesta vents a bit of frustration to a colleague over the Clinton campaign so far. "I'm down," he wrote. "Our team is all tactics and has no idea how to lift her up." Clinton would soon lose in Iowa, but then came back to win in New Hampshire. Emails like this are a reminder of the roller coaster nature of politics, especially at the presidential level. One can only assume that Podesta and many others on this weekend have some butterflies as we near Election Day.

3. Pizza is the new conspiracy theory. Enough with "Spirit Cooking." If you dig into the comments about Wikileaks, you can find a number of people who think the constant mentions of pizza are actually code for something. "No one eats this much pizza," was how on person on Twitter looked at it this morning. "What's with all the Pizza," another asks. "Who takes the time to raise $40,000 for someone and worries about pizza?"

4. Time is running out for Wikileaks. While the emails to and from John Podesta have certainly pulled the curtain back on the Clinton campaign, there has not been anything major from Hillary Clinton. None of her deleted emails from her time as Secretary of State. Several instances where the group teased supporters about emails and then didn't deliver. There are just three days left to Election Day - it's getting a little late in the game for something that would knock Clinton out of the ring.

5. Assange targets Clinton more and more. Not only has Wikileaks turned up the heat against Hillary Clinton, but so too has the group's leader, Julian Assange. In a story in the British press on Friday, Assange claimed that Trump "won't be allowed to win," as he accused Clinton and her supporters of rigging the election. "My analysis is that Trump would not be permitted to win," Assange said from the Ecuadorian Embassy in London where he has been holed up. More than happy to tweet that out was RT, the news network backed by the Kremlin:
