Strong thunderstorms move through region Friday night

Strong thunderstorms are still possible until 3 a.m., but the threat for severe weather has diminished, the National Weather Service said tonight.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been canceled by the National Weather Service. It was to be in effect through 2 a.m. for Butler, Darke, Preble and Wayne and Randolph, Indiana, counties.

A strong thunderstorm will affect parts of Warren, Clinton, Clark, and Greene counties until midnight, with a strong thunderstorm affecting southeastern Montgomery county until 11:45.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect through 2 a.m. for Butler, Darke and Preble counties in Ohio and Wayne and Randolph counties in Indiana, issued by the National Weather Service.

Heavy clouds, showers and storms will approach from the northwest this evening.

The National Weather Service reports that thunderstorms will move across the area between 8 p.m. and 3 a.m. Tonight’s storms have the potential to produce damaging straight line winds.

In addition to these winds, Elwell said we cannot rule out minor flooding, large hail and isolated tornadoes.

This is the second time this week tornadoes could touch down.

Areas along Interstate 70 could be most affected, Elwell said.

Residents should prepare for minor flooding and to keep cellphones charged for communication late this evening. Also, prepare backup generators, if applicable, in case of power outages.
