Large tree uproots, traps woman in her car in Hamilton

A woman said she feels lucky to be alive after a large tree uprooted during today’s heavy storms and landed atop her car in Hamilton while she was inside.

Aillsa Boykins said she was heading out to get her hair done before her birthday party as heavy rain and winds hit Butler County. She heard a loud noise, which she thought was thunder, until the tree crashed down on top of her car, Boykins told our media partner WCPO 9 on Your Side in Cincinnati.

“I’m jolted a bit, but I honestly didn’t ave a clue what happened to me at that point,” she said.

The call to emergency dispatchers came in just after 4:15 p.m. for the woman trapped in her car near the intersection of Dick Avenue and Main Street on the city’s West Side, according to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.

Hamilton firefighters helped her get out through the passenger side door.

Boykins said she will still have her birthday party as planned, but that the party will mark more than just the passing of another year, WCPO reported.

“Today, I’m going to be celebrating something much different, and it’s just celebrating life because mine was almost over today,” Boykins said.

Two other crashes with entrapment were reported on Saturday in Butler County, including one on Eaton Road near Four Mile Creek north of Hamilton, and another at the dragstrip in the 2300 block of Hamilton Cleves Road, however, it’s not clear whether the other incidents are weather related.
