Seven Bengals players slowed by injuries at Monday practice

CINCINNATI — The rare Monday practice after a Sunday game resulted in seven Cincinnati Bengals either sitting out or working on a limited basis as the team gets ready for Thursday night’s contest against Miami.

Cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick (hamstring) and safety Derron Smith (chest) sat out, while tight end Tyler Eifert was one of five players who were limited.

Head coach Marvin Lewis said prior to Monday’s practice that Eifert is close to returning, and a Thursday debut is possible.

“We’ll make a decision when the time comes,” he said.

The other players who were limited were safety George Iloka (shoulder), defensive tackle Pat Sims (Achilles), safety Shawn Williams (knee) and wide receiver James Wright (knee).

Kicker Mike Nugent, who suffered a shoulder injury attempting to tackle Denver’s Cody Latimer on a kick return Sunday, was a full participant Monday.
