Ohio State safety Cam Burrows likely out for season

Ohio State Buckeyes safety Cam Burrows, a Trotwood-Madison graduate, likely will miss the season with a foot injury, coach Urban Meyer said Wednesday. An Ohio State spokesman said Burrows will work as a weight-room assistant during the season.

“I don’t think he’s going to play this season,” Meyer said. “It’s a tough go for him. He’s an awesome guy. He’s a leader on this team. He’s an excellent student. (He comes from) a great family.”

Burrows, a redshirt junior, was not listed on the first official depth chart Tuesday. He missed all but three games last season after breaking his foot and was granted a medical redshirt.

Burrows returned in the spring only to tear the meniscus in his knee. He said he was 100 percent healthy when training camp began.

“It’s crushing,” defensive coordinator Luke Fickell said. “The guys that give their heart and soul for this, the reality is it’s going to happen. It’s a part of the game. It doesn’t make it any easier. Whether the game ends now or the game ends in two years or in six years, at some point in time the game’s going to end. We all have high aspirations and expectations, and a lot of us have been there, whether you’re a coach now or a player before, and that’s one of the things you try to tell him. God’s got a plan. You’ve got to be handle these things in the best way possible.”

Burrows earned a degree in criminology and said at Ohio State Media Day he is now working toward a second degree in sports industry.
