Hartsock: Will Flyers’ Antetokounmpo be ready for opener?

Dayton Flyer fans are hoping the highly anticipated debut of Kostas Antetokounmpo is imminent as the start of the season approaches.

The redshirt freshman has still not been cleared for contact drills in practice as he continues to bounce back from an offseason knee injury. He suffered the injury while training in Greece over the summer for his native country’s U-20 national team.

“I feel like I should be ready for the opener,” Antetokounmpo said this week of the Nov. 10 game against Ball State. “I’d like to be ready for the scrimmage but we need to see what the doctors say and how I’m doing until then.”

Antetokounmpo also has been coping with the tragic death of his father Charles last month.

While he is anxious to finally play a game for the Flyers, Kostas said he’s not going to rush the process.

“I really want to get out there, but I know that if I go out there and get injured again or have another type of injury it’s going to be really bad for the rest of the year,” he said.

The Flyers host Ohio Dominican in their only scrimmage Nov. 4 at UD Arena.
