Eifert says he’s ready, but decision will come Thursday

CINCINNATI — The guessing game with Tyler Eifert continued today, with the Pro Bowl tight end saying he’s ready to play but that the decision belongs to head coach Marvin Lewis.

“I’m super eager and excited, too, because it’s only been four games but it feels like I haven’t been out there forever,” Eifert said. “I’m ready and just excited to get out there and help this team win games.”

But Lewis remained vague on Eifert’s status.

“He’s looking good. He wants to play,” Lewis said. “We’ll make that decision Thursday.”

Lewis said Monday that the short week will have no bearing on whether Eifert plays Thursday night against the Miami Dolphins, but according to a report by ESPN, Eifert is not expected to play.

Lewis said when Eifert returns, the Bengals will ease him into the offense.

“When we bring him back to play, we’re not going to expect him to be out there for 65 snaps,” He said.
