Dayton Flyers, Miami RedHawks won’t play this season

The Miami RedHawks released their non-conference men's basketball schedule on Wednesday, and the Dayton Flyers are not on it.

Miami and Dayton have played 132 times since 1909. They played the last two seasons. The last time they didn’t play was in the 2013-14 season. After that season, they signed a two-year contract to play in 2014-15 and 2015-16, and Dayton coach Archie Miller said the series would be reevaluated after that.

Dayton beat Miami 64-63 last season on a last-second shot by Kyle Davis at UD Arena. Two years ago, UD lost a big lead but still beat Miami 66-62 in Oxford. Dayton has won eight of the last nine games in the series and leads the overall series 71-61.

Two years ago, after Dayton beat Bowling Green 56-52 in the last of three straight games against Mid-American Conference schools, Miller said UD was “done with the MAC run for a while. The thing people don’t understand is a lot of these guys, they come to games here (in high school) and then they go to Bowling Green and then they get a chance to play at the place where maybe they wanted to go. There’s a lot of those tough situations. It’s like when Dayton plays Ohio State. You have to be ready to battle in those games because you’re bringing in a group of people that are really ready to go.”

Dayton has not released its non-conference schedule but its expected to do so soon. The following games are known: Austin Peay at Dayton, Nov. 11; Dayton at Alabama, Nov. 15; Dayton at Wooden Legacy tournament, vs. Nebraska on Nov. 24, TBA 25 and TBA 27; Dayton vs. Northwestern at United Center in Chicago, Dec. 17; Vanderbilt at Dayton, Dec. 21; and VMI at Dayton, Dec. 23.
