Cleveland Browns part ways with former No. 1 pick

The Cleveland Browns have decided to part ways with Barkevious Mingo.

Thursday the team announced it has traded the No. 6 pick in the 2013 draft to New England for a fifth-round pick next spring.

After an initial report of the deal by ESPN, Comcast SportsNet New England noted the Patriots have “coveted Mingo for some time.”

Mingo did not make much of an impact in his three seasons in Cleveland. The former LSU standout has 99 tackles and seven sacks – five during his rookie season – in the NFL.

His exit continues a bad trend for the Browns, who had five first-round picks from 2012-14 and have gotten almost nothing positive out of them.

Brandon Weeden (No. 22, 2012), Trent Richardson (No. 3, 2012), Mingo and Johnny Manziel (No. 22, 2014) are all gone from the roster while Justin Gilbert is trying to put two disappointing years behind him after being taken with the eighth overall pick in 2014.
