J.T. Barrett named Big Ten Player of Week

The Big Ten named quarterback J.T. Barrett offensive player of the week on Monday after he led the Ohio State Buckeyes to a 77-10 victory over Bowling Green in the season opener Saturday at Ohio Stadium.

Barrett accounted for a school-record seven touchdowns. He threw six touchdown passes to tie a school record he already shared with Kenny Guiton. He also ran for a score.

Barrett completed 21 of 31 passes for 349 yards. This is the fifth time Barrett has won the offensive player of the week award and the first time since Oct. 26, 2015.

Ohio State set a school record with 776 yards of total offense. That was the highest total in FBS football. Texas Tech recorded 758 yards in its opener. With 706 yards, Troy was the only other school with more than 700.

Ohio State recorded 41 first downs, the second-highest total in school history. The Buckeyes had 417 passing yards in total. That ranks fourth in school history.
