Melt Bar and Grilled may be famous for its grilled cheese.

But this sandwich available in March only just might grab your attention.

The March sandwich special is General Tso's Delicious Manchu Dynasty Melt, made from crispy fried chicken covered in General Tso's sweet and spicy sauce, crisp broccoli, egg foo yung, rangoon-style cream cheese, Muenster cheese with a sesame seed garnish. A vegetarian alternative version is available.

Other March specials include:


  • Cheesy Loaded Potatoes — crispy roasted potatoes, cheddar cheese sauce, crumbled bacon, sour cream and scallions. Vegetarian alternative available

Electric Blueberry Lemonade, made of homemade blueberry lemon bread pudding served warm over a sweet blueberry sauce, then topped with vanilla ice cream, real whipped cream and lemonade sugar.


Breckenridge Mango Mosaic Pale Ale, where its Mosaic hops take center stage and contribute a wonderful fruity aroma, while guava, mango and passion fruit lend a unique sweetness to the hop character of this pale ale. To build upon the tropical attributes of the hops, thousands of pounds of mango puree have been added per batch. Munich malts provide body and balance as well as a subtle sweetness that pairs perfectly with the fruit. This intermingling of ingredients creates a memorable and refreshing pale ale. 5.5% abv 

Melt Mai Tai, made of Bacardi rum, Gran Gala, fresh lime juice, housemade orgeat syrup* and a Myers dark rum float, and is our take on this famous and very mysterious Polynesian-style cocktail. Butter Cafe has been a popular spot since opening on Brown Street near UD in 2010.

Late night near the University of Dayton is going to be decidedly more delicious in a matter of days.

Butter Cafe, the popular breakfast and lunch spot at 1106 Brown St., will launch its late night walk-up window Friday, March 30.

The window will serve a limited menu 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

If all goes as planned, late nights near the University of Dayton are about to get far more delicious. 

Butter Cafe, the popular breakfast and lunch spot at 1106 Brown St. in Dayton, plans to begin serving a late-night menu, according to co-owner Sarah Dudley

“We just feel like it’s a need for late night dining around here,” she said. “There’s not many places that have late night dining.”

The restaurant hopes to start selling a limited menu from a side window near its parking lot beginning in the next three weeks or so, Dudley said. 

She said the window will be “jazzed up” for its new purpose.

Opened in the former location of Dolcessa gelato shop in 2010, Butter serves a variety of  vegan and vegetarian dishes as well as locally grown, free range eggs, waffles, French toast, pancakes, burgers, salads, baked goods and sandwiches.

Initially, the restaurant’s walk-up window will serve a limited menu on weekends from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m., Dudley said. 

Items will likely include Butter’s famed potatoes as well as eggs, breakfast sandwiches and pancakes.

“It will be a scaled-down menu,” she said. 

The restaurant employees about 20 people. Dudley said schedules will be reorganized to fill the weekend breakfast needs.  

“I feel like it will be a lot busier when school is in (session),” she said.

For adults, freshly-made Mimosas as well as a Bloody Mary Cart will be available. For a finer fare this Easter Sunday, you and your family can enjoy your choice of Lobster Bisque, Modern Caesar or Housemade Burrata Salad followed by a mouthwatering entrée selection that includes Fleming’s Signature Eggs Benedict, Cinnamon Apple Brioche French Toast or Ora King Salmon Cobb Salad.

The brunch chain offers carrot cake as one of the options when you order the multigrain pancakes.

They’re loaded with shredded carrots, of course, walnuts and raisins and just like any great flapjack, it’s crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. You can get one for $4.79 or a stack of two for $6.79.

“I’d say the carrot cake pancake is the perfect mix of farm fresh food they’re known for, and an indulgent meal that fulfills my sweet tooth cravings,” said local foodie Lauren Turner.

She recommends pairing the pancakes with an order of the Million Dollar Bacon, which First Watch describes as four slices of hardwood smoked bacon baked with brown sugar, black pepper, cayenne and a maple syrup drizzle.
