Stephen Lowery, President of Dayton Heidelberg Distributing stands in an area that is being constructed into a 32,000 sq. ft. cooler for draft and specialty packaged beer. Heidelberg Distributing is breathing new life into the long-shuttered former Cooper Tire, the mammoth facility that is instantly recognizable to anyone who drives I-75 through Dayton. The Dayton-based wine and beer distributor purchased the building -- which holds four football fields comfortably -- late last year, and is in the midst of a $21 million renovation of the former industrial site. By mid-summer, the place will morph into a state-of-the-art, temperature-controlled, yet very green distribution center with a growing employment expected to hit about 290 jobs by the end of 2013.
