Woman’s car stuck in high water, flooding closes roads

North Bickett Road at U.S. 42 is expected to reopen shortly after deputies reported the water level receded.

Dispatchers said deputies are in the process of getting the signs removed from the roadway and will reopen the road shortly.

Dispatchers said high water has forced deputies in Greene County to close North Bickett Road around U.S. 42 in Xenia Township.

There have been no reports of any stuck vehicles, and it’s unknown when the roadway might reopen.

FIRST REPORT

A woman’s car was trapped in high water Sunday night that shut down several roads across the region.

The woman’s car became stuck in the water around 8:45 p.m. in the 1600 block of Webster Street in Dayton. High water temporarily shut down the Stanley Avenue exit off northbound Interstate 75 after four cars became stuck on Stanley Avenue, according to reports from Dayton police.

The woman whose car was stuck was not hurt, but her car had to be towed, News Center 7’s Caroline Reinwald reported. Police say if water is covering the road, motorists should not try to drive through hit.

Flash flood warnings and flood advisories were in place through most of the night for most of the Miami Valley.

North Keowee Street at the Ohio 4 underpass in Dayton also was closed for high water, and heavy rainfall also led to almost a foot on Brown Street near the University of Dayton campus almost three blocks, from the corner of Stewart Street all the way to Frank Street. High water also was reported on Shroyer Road in Oakwood and Dayton.

Trained spotters with the National Weather Service in Wilmington also reported flooding in Greene County. The depth reached 10 inches at 9:35 p.m. for some streets under water in Xenia, and water levels were between 5 and 6 inches on U.S. 68 in Yellow Springs, according to the NWS reports.

In addition to rain, storms tonight also dropped hail over parts of Centerville all the way to Troy.

Rainfall was reported at 3.18 inches in Kettering; 1.95 inches in Xenia, and 1.97 inches in Mount Carmel, according to the National Weather Service.

Two water main breaks were reported in Harrison Twp., in the 2100 block of Mimi Drive and near the intersection of Ottello and Kenneth avenues.
