Whirlpool to nearly double distribution size at Greenville plant

Whirlpool Corp. plans to nearly double its distribution size at its Greenville operation, which ships all of the company’s KitchenAid small appliances.

The expansion, which will grow the company’s warehouse from 327,000 square feet to approximately 650,000 square feet, builds upon Whirlpool’s commitment to the Greenville, the company said.

“This is a testament both to the success of our global KitchenAid business as well as our commitment to domestic operations in the U.S. and Ohio,” said Ken Hossler, plant lead at the Greenville FDC. “We’re continuing to invest in Ohio due to the skilled and talented workforce here, and are looking forward to this expansion’s role in our continued growth.”

This is the second expansion at the Greenville location in recent years. The company opened this spring its $40 million, 218,000 square foot expansion to the manufacturing side of the building.

The company said earlier this year it will add 400 employees to the plant.

The company builds the popular KitchenAid stand mixer at the plant. It produces an average of 16,000 units daily, including 10,000 stand mixers, company officials said.

The expansion allows for increased capacity for additional and potentially new products, the company said.

Whirlpool employs 10,000 workers in Ohio, including about 1,000 at its Greenville facility. The plant about an hour’s drive from Dayton is one of five Whirlpool manufacturing facilities in Ohio.
