WPAFB Thursday Weather: Rain today; freezing rain and snow Friday

Unseasonably warm weather will last one more day with near record high temperatures expected in the upper 50s, said Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist Eric Elwell.

Pack the umbrella though, as on and off showers are expected. The rain will pick up late in the evening and into Thursday night.

Temperatures will hold steady Thursday night but begin to fall rapidly Friday morning. As cold air moves in, the rain will turn to freezing rain, likely coating elevated surfaces with a thin layer of ice.

The freezing rain will change to sleet by mid-afternoon, and then to snow toward the evening.

Snow will be likely Friday night into early Saturday. Snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches will be possible by Saturday morning.
