UPDATE @ 10:11 a.m.

Guy, 48, was cited for operating a vehicle without reasonable control.

No one else was hurt or cited.

UPDATE @ 5:05 a.m.

State troopers said a driver fell asleep, causing a rollover crash that shut down a portion of northbound I-75 north of Piqua Wednesday morning.

Sgt. Matt Robinson from the Piqua Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said both vehicles were traveling northbound when the SUV drifted off the left side of the road, overcorrected, and slammed into another vehicle in the right lane.

Robinson said the SUV rolled several times and trapped the driver.

The driver of the SUV suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital. Robinson said the driver was talking to troopers and medics when they arrived on scene.

Trinell Prater, the driver of the other vehicle, said he and five others in his car were on their way from Alabama to Detroit when they were hit by the sleepy driver.

“There wasn’t too much we could do,” Prater said.

Qawnicia Travis was in the back of the vehicle along with her three children, aged seven months, three, and seven-years-old.

“As a parent, I saw my life [flash] in front of my eyes. I didn’t know if my kids were going to be ok,” Travis said.

Robinson said only one person in Prater’s car required medical attention at the scene for minor injuries.

Robinson said the tired driver appears to be the only cause of the crash, and excessive speed is not believed to be a factor.

The left lane of the highway reopened around 4 a.m. and the right lane reopened around 4:45 a.m.
