Driver ejected in crash after fleeing from traffic stop

UPDATE @ 4:20 a.m.

State troopers said a man was ejected in a crash after fleeing from an attempted traffic stop in Dayton early Thursday morning.

Sgt. Matt Robinson with the Dayton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said the vehicle was first spotted traveling on North Main Street driving recklessly around 2:10 a.m.

Robinson said the trooper initiated a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled the scene. The trooper did not pursue the vehicle, according to Robinson.

The vehicle was found a short time later at the intersection of West Hillcrest and Salem avenues after it slammed into a pole and ejected the driver.

Robinson said the man was transported to Miami Valley Hospital and is listed in serious condition.

Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the crash.

DP&L crews remain on the scene to replace the utility pole.

Dayton Power & Light is on the scene of a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of Salem and West Hillcrest avenues.

Hillcrest remains closed in the area.

FIRST REPORT

One person has reportedly been ejected from a vehicle following a crash near the intersection of Salem and West Hillcrest avenues in Dayton.

Medics were requested to the intersection by an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper around 2:15 a.m.

According to scanner traffic, a state trooper was following the vehicle, possibly pursuing it before the crash was reported.

Police have blocked West Hillcrest Avenue between Kipling Drive and Salem Avenue for the investgation.

The condition of the occupant was not immediately known.
