Springfield police investigate unresponsive baby

SPRINGFIELD — A Springfield toddler is in serious condition at Dayton Children’s Hospital after the boy was found unresponsive in a home Thursday.

Medics were called to a home in the 1700 block of Edwards Avenue around 2 p.m. Thursday on reports of a child in distress and not breathing, Sgt. Jeff Flores with the Springfield Police Division said.

The boy was rushed to the hospital, where he remains, Flores said.

Springfield police detectives are investigating the case, questioning the babysitter that was taking care of the child at the time of the 9-1-1 call, Flores said.

Initial reports indicated the child might have been left alone in a bathtub, according to a Springfield Police Division incident report.

The investigation is ongoing, Flores said, and no charges have been filed at this time.
