‘Santa’ says he’s OK after crash in Kettering

UPDATE @ 3:49 p.m.

Santa Claus, whose real name is Detlef Frank, was cited in the three-vehicle crash for failure to yield, according to Kettering police.

Frank stayed in character as he spoke to our photographer about the incident.

“I was going to the Friends Care [Community] in Yellow Springs, Ohio in anticipation of helping them celebrate Christmas and I was involved in a traffic accident,” he said. “Fortunately, the reindeer were not involved. They were smart enough to stay home.”

Two people were injured in the crash and taken to the hospital. The severity of their injuries was not immediately available, but the injuries were not considered life-threatening.

“Santa” wanted to assure everyone he is ready to go for Christmas Day.

“I’ll be up and at ‘em for the 25th. Don’t worry about that,” he said.
