Destruction and devastation struck the Midwest on April 11, 1965. Commonly known as the Palm Sunday Tornado Outbreak, 47 twisters hit the states of Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. In the storm, 137 people lost their lives and more than 1,200 were injured, according to the National Weather Service.
