Who needs to be on gluten-free diet?

Grocery store shelves and restaurant menus are filling up with gluten-free options, and one restaurant and bakery in Centerville provides a completely gluten-free menu.

Gluten is a protein that is found in wheat, rye and other grains, those with celiac disease and other wheat allergies must avoid it, but others are going gluten-free claiming health benefits and weight loss. Sales of gluten-free snacks, crackers, pasta, bread and other products reached $973 million in the U.S. in 2014, up from $810 million the previous year, according to a January report by consumer research firm Packaged Facts.

Consumer reporter Rachel Murray is looking into the gluten free trend, and will have more on this story tonight on News Center 7 at 5 p.m. and in Friday’s Dayton Daily News.
