SUV that struck Kettering cruiser located

Police have located a SUV that struck a Kettering police cruiser as it was fleeing a coin and jewelry shop Tuesday morning.

The SUV was located on Mesmer Avenue in Dayton shortly before 1 p.m. Dayton police were looking for the SUV after receiving a tip that it was in the area of Smithville Road and Ludlow Street.

Police are on scene conducting interviews. No arrests have been made.

A suspect fleeing a coin and jewelry shop hit a police cruiser Tuesday morning.

Kettering police responded to Belmont Coin and Jewelry in the 2700 block of Wilmington Pike around 11 a.m. after receiving information from Sugarcreek Twp. police that a burglary suspect was at the shop, according to a release.

An officer responding located the suspect walking out of the business, and ordered him to stop. The suspect ignored the officer, got into a SUV and drove into the front, driver’s side area of the police cruiser, according to the release.

The officer attempted to pursue the suspect, but the cruiser was disabled due to damage. The suspect was last seen traveling north on Smithville Road into the City of Dayton.

The officer was not hurt, and the investigation is ongoing.
